PV GAS strives to maintain and increase gas supply for electricity generation

The delegation of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises led by comrade Ho Sy Hung – its Vice Chairman on May 17 hosted a working session to discuss the gas supply for electricity generation at the Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS)’s headquarters.

Facing the current abnormally hot weather, leading to an increasing electricity demand, the Commission for the Management of State Capital held a meeting with EVN, PVN and PV GAS to coordinate to find solutions to the increase of gas supply for electricity generation to meet the urgent national grid demand in the second half of May and which may last until the beginning of June 2023.

At the meeting, EVN reported the gas use for electricity generation in the first 4 months of 2023.

The representative of PVN/ PV GAS leaders reported the gas supply for electricity generation in 2023. In the first 4 months of this year, PV GAS has synchronously carried out solutions to increase gas supply capacity for electric power plants. PV GAS also updated the trial run of Thi Vai LNG Terminal with a capacity of 1.4 billion m3 of gas/year. It is expected to supply converted gas for consumers in July 2023.

Amidst a rapid decline in domestic gas supply and a high gas demand for electricity generation, the meeting attendees proposed the Commission for the Management of State Capital to report to the relevant authorities for early approval of the allocation mechanism of converted LNG source for electric power plants in the Southeast region by 2023.

After listening to reports and discussions of representatives from EVN, PVN and PV GAS, comrade Ho Sy Hung - Vice Chairman of Commission for the Management of State Capital recognized and highly valued the efforts of PVN and PV GAS in the implementation of solutions to maintaining and increasing gas supply for recent electricity generation. Comrade Ho Sy Hung suggested that PV GAS continue to work with field owners to maximize the ability of gas supply within the allowable technical limits. Comrade Sy Hung also suggested that EVN should actively study, balance and calculate the addition of LNG sources for the electricity generation system to be ready to receive LNG sources in the upcoming time.
