PV GAS COMPLETED FIRST LNG IMPORT CARGO RECEPTION

On July 18, 2023, the first 70,000-ton commissioning LNG cargo was fully pumped into the 180,000 m3 storage tank at Thi Vai LNG Terminal after more than a week since the arrival of the Maran Gas Achilles LNG Carrier (LNG/C). This helped PV GAS gain momentum on the journey towards green energy transition and contributed to elevating Ba Ria - Vung Tau seaport cluster’s reputation, as well as that of Vietnam on the global energy map.

During the cargo handling at LNG Terminal 1 (PETEC Cai Mep), PV GAS received continuous supervision, guidance, and support from state agencies and thereby conducted close coordination with relevant parties: Shipper, Vessel Master, Maritime Agent, EPC Contractor, etc. Despite high vessel density in the port area and complex weather conditions, PV GAS was able to implement all measures to ensure maritime security and safety according to the approved plan by Vietnam Maritime Administration.

In line with that, the overall process was praised and highly rated by Shell for its feasibility of seamless coordination among involved parties at each stage. This once again reflects PV GAS's investment and meticulous preparation for the introduction of the first LNG vessel at Thi Vai LNG Terminal.

To guarantee the safety during the departing, two premier-grade pilots boarded the vessel in coordination with the Mooring Masters to directly support the Vessel Master in navigation. 04 tugboats (Azimuth class, 5,000 HP) were nominated to smoothly push and tow the LNG/C, similarly to when she docked.

Due to the large size and strict safety requirements of the LNG/C, the entire departure was also managed by 2 patrol tugs (Sea Summer and Sea Spring) in the terminal’s upstream and downstream as well as the turning area at Go Gia T-junction. Additionally, a Traffic Police speedboat and a Border Guard speedboat from Ba Ria – Vung Tau Seaport were deployed to perform traffic controlling and security maintaining at the junction. Eventually, a pilot boat for channel clearance and a tugboat were assigned to escort Maran Gas Achilles off to Buoy 0.

That Thi Vai LNG Terminal successfully received the first LNG flow affirms PV GAS’ competence in meeting domestic and international standards and regulations, as well as safety requirements. Besides Shell, it has also successfully undergone Due Diligence with other energy majors such as Cheniere, QatarGas and PetroChina with high credits.
